Planning my daughter's wedding at Adath

When my daughter got engaged and we started planning her wedding she had one request.  She wanted to keep as much at the synagogue as possible. Even though she did not grow up at Adath and was now living out of town, we knew somehow we needed to incorporate Bnai Emet and Adath into her wedding day. We met first with Bernie and asked him if he thought Beth and her staff could handle such an event and how many people the synagogue could hold. We also talked about what is at Adath that came over from Bnai Emet. We discussed timing and staff that would be available for us that day. We also addressed that the bride and groom did not live in Minnesota, so all planning would be taking place long distance and I would be the point person. Bernie was honest in his response and really helped everyone feel confident that it was doable.

Our next meeting was with Beth. My daughter had been busy on Pintrust like every Bride to be. We talked to Beth about some of her ideas…Could we do a S’mores Bar, was she willing to try new recipes that our daughter found on line, what would the room look like? We started off with a meat menu, switched to fish and finally decided on stations. We went over the room layout, staff needs and color scheme. Beth was always available, whether I emailed, called or met with her. Beth was able to convert our ideas into the main event. We had an open bar, appetizers, main courses and then an amazing dessert buffet. The night was “magical.”

The dance floor was set up and we were able to use the atrium for appetizers.  The main sanctuary for the ceremony and the outside was set up for dessert. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate so everything was moved indoors including the S'mores Bar. Everyone on the staff was so helpful the week of the wedding when we were schlepping stuff into the Synagogue.

The facility at Adath was perfect we were able to take some amazing outdoor pictures in between the rain showers. The kids were able to get married under the Bnai Emet Chupah and sign the Ketubah under the Bnai Emet chandelier.  For decorations we  brought in lighting and made the Social Hall into a room unrecognizable. Our thanks to Bernie for being there the day of to make sure everything continued to run smoothly, to the Rabbis for helping the kids feel comfortable at our Synagogue, to Beth and her amazing staff and to the Custodial help that also worked extra hours to get everything set up.

When it was all over and I asked the kids if they would change anything, the answer was “NO! Thanks for making our day perfect.”  The only issue we had is the weather that caused a power outage causing the evening to end a little sooner than planned.

The wedding was a lot of fun. I was really impressed with how beautiful the social hall was.

How great is this couple's choice to have their entire simcha at the Adath? In 1982, my husband Sheldon and I had our entire wedding event (reception, dinner, etc.) at the old 3400 Dupont location instead of a fancy, cookie-cutter hotel ballroom affair. It made the day extra special and meaningful for us. Kudos to the Adath staff!!!!!
