Weiners' Commitment to Adath's Future Challenges Us All to Do Our Part
Community means many things to each of us. To the Weiners it defines a vital future. Andy and Marci Weiner have made community service a priority in their lives.
Growing up in New England, Andy started volunteering in his community at an early age. He learned the true value of serving others from his parents' legacy of volunteerism, as a member of his hometown volunteer fire department, and as an EMT Paramedic. Growing up in the small Jewish community of Erie, Pennsylvania, Marci found synagogue community at the center of her life. Her father, Jules, showed her the value of commitment to the Synagogue by serving in a wide variety of congregational roles. In addition, Marci's experience as a camper and staff member of Camp Ramah greatly influenced her connection to Judaism. |
Upon moving to Minnesota, Marci and Andy both took it upon themselves to become involved in making a difference in their community. Marci has given her heart to families with seriously ill and injured children as a board member for the Ronald McDonald House, and Andy has been a leader in Children's Cancer Research Fund and currently serves on the board of Faith's Lodge and as a Western Golf Association Director for the Evans Scholarship Program.
They see their role at the Synagogue of particular significance, because of the opportunity to groom leadership that will follow in their footsteps both inside the Adath and beyond.
Therefore, Andy has played a very active role at Adath, serving as a member of the Executive Steering Committee for our new building, on the Board of Trustees, on the synagogue's Executive Committee, and currently on the Adath Foundation Board. During Andy's tenure as Fundraising VP, he took an integral role in developing our new fundraising strategies that included the L'Chaim Campaign and use of a major benefit to help subsidize our budget. Marci has served on several committees over the years, including a term on the Ritual Committee. Andy and Marci are active supporters. They made a substantial commitment to our new building and for several years they have sponsored the Senior Scholar position filled by Rabbi Barry Cytron, enabling Adath to maintain a vital connection with its former Senior Rabbi. Their generous contribution also played a big part in enabling the congregation to repair our Torah scrolls in 2005. In addition, the connection has passed to the next generation, as their daughter Melissa and her husband, Danny Wolchansky, who were married at the Adath in 2008, are now members of the congregation.
They have helped to mold our past, continue to support the ongoing life of the congregation, and have informed us that the Adath Foundation is part of their estate plans, helping to ensure a vital future for our congregation.
The Weiners mean a great deal to Adath. We are grateful for their depth of commitment to the Synagogue and our community.
