Touch the Lives of Young People Through a Scholarship
According to Dr. Steven M. Cohen, a sociologist of American Jewry, the more Jewish education a child has, the stronger his/her Jewish identity is likely to be (1985). Jewish summer camp and Israel experiences are crucial in developing and nurturing Jewish identity and commitment.
One obstacle to participation in these programs is cost. Our Adath community has encouraged and enabled families to choose Jewish summer camp and Israel by offering scholarships. One such recipient in recent years is Adam Broms. Adam was the beneficiary of a merit scholarship to attend Camp Ramah. He was also one of our first Harold and Zelda Goldenberg Israel Experience Scholars to attend Nativ, a one year program in Israel focused on learning and volunteering under the auspices of the Conservative movement. Adam was an outstanding student, a leader in USY, and attended Camp Ramah, first as a camper and later as a counselor in the Tikvah program for teens with special needs. Adam had a promising future as a leader. |
Adam graduated from George Washington University in Washington D.C and began his professional career as a human resources fellow focusing on professional development and recruitment in the national office of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.
"My experiences both at camp and in Israel provided such a crucial foundation for who I am as a person." says Broms. "I am thankful that my synagogue and community were always with me helping to plant the seeds for my future."
Every year, Adath Jeshurun Congregation provides more than $30,000 in merit and need-based scholarships for our young people to attend Jewish summer camp or participate in an Israel experience. These scholarships are made possible through named funds within the Adath Jeshurun Foundation, as well as our annual L'Chaim Campaign.
Establishing a permanent scholarship is a wonderful way to touch the lives of young people today and ensure a vibrant Jewish future. To learn more, contact Talor Blustin at 952.545.2424 or [email protected].
