Tisha B'AvSaturday, August 6, 8 pm in Adath's Sanctuary • With Adath Jeshurun, Sharei Chesed and Mayim Rabim Congregations
Jerusalem: A History through Song and Lyrics, will explore the city from its many literary representations. We will survey poems, piyyutim and songs from Biblical literature through modern Israeli composition. Participants will be encouraged to sing-a-long, while setting the mood for the Eicha reading.
Tisha B’Av recalls the gratuitous hatred- sinat chinam - that existed between Jews during the Roman period. Having a combined service of congregations represents our aspirations to create gratuitous love - ahavat chinam. All are welcome to join us as together we recall the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. Paul and Saralee Shrell-Fox made Aliyah nearly 30 years ago. Residing in Jerusalem, Paul is a practicing Psychologist and lectures in Psychology and Early Childhood Development. He enjoys “moonlighting” as a Rabbi. Saralee, who hails from the Adath, is a Nusach Specialist for Rabbinical students in Jerusalem, Berlin, U.K., California, and New York. She officiates B’not/B’nai Mitzvah and other S’machot, using her guitar, in many venues in Israel. Paul and Saralee are blessed with five children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. |
