Adath Annual Benefit Honoring Janice Schactman
#OneAdath
For 36 years, Janice Schachtman has been a woman of impact. Since 1985, congregants of all life stages have found an ardent advocate in Janice, and someone who moves mountains to help them love Adath like she does.
Adath succeeds because of people like Janice, today, we are lucky enough to come together as #OneAdath to honor her.
Janice Schachtman began her role at Gan Shelanu while being an active member and volunteer at Adath. Over the years, Janice not only maintained her level of involvement, but cared for our homebound congregants and those in senior living facilities. She also involved the preschool in sponsoring families in need, allowing them to experience the traditions, memories, and top-level education she prides herself in establishing at the Gan.
Janice’s role at Gan Shelanu has been essential to Adath’s future. She often says that Adath begins at the Gan- that by engaging the minds and hearts of our youngest members, we create a vibrant community as an entry point for the next generation. It is in her devotion to tradition with a twist, caregiving, gardening, and teaching everything as she does that she leaves her impact on Adath Jeshurun.

One deed can make a huge difference
Janice's impact has undoubtedly been felt well beyond the classroom. From serving Adath as a Sunday school teacher in high school and college to joining the Gan as a volunteer, to putting on 4th of July events, and taking every opportunity to celebrate with pomp and circumstance, Janice’s love for Adath Jeshurun and her beloved Gan leaves an example that we can only hope to follow.
Janice lives and breathes Adath. Whether you’ve known her for two minutes or two decades, you feel her love for our congregation and preschool. It’s in her bones.
- Rabbi Aaron Weininger
Janice’s deep belief in Hachnasat Orchim, or welcoming guests, finds her constantly picking up the phone to connect with congregants across all age groups, or stopping by someone’s house with a Challah.

Today, your actions have twice the impact
Just as Janice amplifies light and love at Adath, every donation you give today is doubled thanks to our generous matchers. Our annual benefit is one of our biggest campaigns of the year and raises much needed funds for the many projects and initiatives at Adath that further our mission and the work that Janice spent the past 36 years working towards.
Together, we can do more
We hope that today is a time to use our strengths to uplift and make a tangible difference for those around us.
In honor of Janice and her impact on each and every one of us, we ask that you give to our annual benefit to continue Janice’s work of preserving the traditions, enhancing the opportunities to teach, and loving our neighbors unconditionally at Adath.
