Membership Financial Information 2012-2013

Our goal in establishing and collecting fees that we call “membership commitment to a sacred community” is to generate sufficient revenue to meet the operational needs of the synagogue, and to enhance our ability to sustain and add meaningful programming.

This fiscal year, it will cost approximately $1,926 per member household to meet the operational needs of the synagogue. We ask that member households pay at least this amount, and that individual members pay at least $1,380. In recognizing that not all members can afford these levels, and that others can afford higher levels, we ask that if members are able to pay more, they use 1.5% of their gross income as a benchmark in setting their membership fees.

We do not ask members how much they earn, how much they are worth, or request that they produce a tax return to justify their financial commitment. We respect the privacy of our members and trust that they will help set their fees at appropriate levels.

The Board of Trustees reserves the right to impose annual fee increases to meet the synagogue’s operating costs.

No one is ever excluded from membership because of limited financial resources.

Sustaining: $1,380 (individual)
  $1,926 (family)
Chaver: $2,500
Chai (x2): $3,600
Pillar: $5,000

Newlyweds

Newly married couples in which at least one individual is the child of an Adath member may receive a one year free household membership in the congregation. This policy applies to interfaith couples as well.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW ARE MEMBERSHIP FEES SET?
Membership fees are set in a face-to-face meeting with the Executive Director of Adath. Fees are set based on an individual’s or a family’s ability to pay, balanced by the needs of the synagogue to sustain itself.

IS THERE ANYTHING DONE FOR YOUNG FAMILIES UNDER FINANCIAL STRESS?
At Adath Jeshurun, we want to make families welcome. Some families are blessed with sufficient resources to afford sustaining fees and some are not. Please feel free to discuss your needs with the Executive Director at the time you meet with him.

BUILDING FUND
All Adath members are required to make a financial pledge to the Building Fund. The Building Fund pledge is three (3) times your annual membership fees and is payable over five (5) years.

FEE FOR CONSERVATIVE JUDAISM, JTS AND MASORTI
All members are also required to pay an annual fee for Conservative Judaism. This money supports the work of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism of which our synagogue is a member. Adath also supports the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) and the University of Judaism where Conservative Clergy are trained, and Masorti – the Conservative Movement in Israel. Adath passes this fee along to these organizations. The fee paid is based on your membership amount. Members who pay more than $500 will pay $55 and those paying less pay a lower amount.

OTHER NOTES
There are additional tuition charges for education and youth programs (religious school, daycare, preschool, summer camp, Bar/Bat Mitzvah study and preparation, USY, etc.)
