Music
Music is a vital part of Jewish and synagogue life. It comes from the heart and speaks to the heart. In prayer much can be expressed through music that might not be easily expressed with words. We are working on providing a rich selection of Jewish music for your enjoyment and education. This is a work in progress and will be available in it’s early form in late August. Stay tuned…
A WORLD PREMIER!
L'dor Vador has been one of our congregation's most beloved melodies since it was introduced to the congregation over 10 years ago. The music for this beautiful and meaningful prayer was written by one of my esteemed colleagues, Cantor Meir Finkelstein of Toronto. Cantor Finkelstein is regarded as one of the foremost synagogue composers of our time. Since introducing L'dor Vador we have introduced several other beautiful musical settings of Cantor Finkelstein’s into our services: V'al Kulam, Besefer Chayim, V'shamru and Yihiyu L'ratzon, to name a few. All of these pieces have one thing in common. They are gorgeous choral settings with lush harmony but also a beautiful melody that engages the congregation and draws our congregants into singing along with the choir. It is a rare gift to be able to create such a piece.
Given the power and beauty of Meir Finkelstein's work, it is a great honor and privilege to commission him to write a new piece in honor of Adath's 125th anniversary. Thanks to the generosity of two Adath families, a dream to premier a new piece composed by Finkelstein this Rosh Hashana has come true. Amy and Stan Baratz and Cindi and Harold Goldfine sponsored the commission of this new musical composition in honor of Adath's 125th anniversary and in celebration of their two families coming together through the recent marriage of their children, Sara and Blake.
With the help of the Adath choir the world premier of a new Halleluya by Cantor Meir Finkelstein will be presented during Rosh Hashana services this year in our sanctuary. The Adath choir and I have been rehearsing this stirring new piece and I can enthusiastically say that you are in for a wonderful treat this Rosh Hashana.
