Mitzvah Spotlight
David Dotterweich
As you approach Adath, you may notice a huge change in the appear-ance of the two storage buildings just west of the driveway. Thanks to the hard work and vision of our teen member David Dotterweich and a volunteer crew of about a dozen others, these former eyesores have been cleaned, painted and restored. Not only is the area visibly more attractive, it is now safer and more secure.
David, a tenth grader working toward his Boy Scout Eagle Scout badge, sought to identify a major service project which would make a difference in his community. He approached Adath Property Vice President Todd Werner and Facilities Director Bob Simon, who suggested that he recruit a team to improve the two storage buildings, which were in poor condition, overgrown and unsafe. David’s local Boy Scouts of America Troop 208 Scout Master, Mitch Gleeman, also a member of Adath Jeshurun, approved the project, and David was on his way.
David and his volunteer team of teens and adults went to work. Together they replaced rotten boards, power-washed, painted and stained the buildings. They trimmed bushes and trees, removed junk and cleaned up the entire area and surroundings. Over the course of a month they worked evenings, Sundays and during the MEA weekend in order to finish the job by the end of October.
Many of those who assisted David were Adath members. We extend our deep appreciation to David and to Alecia Dotterweich, Gus Dotterweich, Stephanie Gedan, Brad Gleeman, Josh Savitz, Andrew Stein, Neil Stein, and Jonathan Werner, as well as to the others who made such a difference. As other young Adath members will be work-ing on their Eagle Scout badges in the near future, we may find additional projects that will benefit Adath Jeshurun.
