Congregational Nurse
|
I am ever mindful of the Lord’s presence;
The Healer is at my right hand;
I shall never be shaken
So my heart rejoices,
My whole being exults,
And my body rests secure.
- Psalm 16:8-9 |

What is Congregational Nursing?
Congregational Nursing is the field of professional nursing that promotes health within a faith community including physical, psychological and spiritual wellness. It acknowledges the relationship between body, mind and spirit, and the need to address each of these for healing to take place. A nurse representing the synagogue, equipped with a nurse’s experience and Jewish texts visits the member in need, and sets in motion medical, spiritual and social dimensions of healing.
Our Mission:
Adath Jeshurun Congregational Nursing Program’s mission is to work in unity with the Congregation to create a compassionate and caring community that will reach out to our members and provide support in times of need. The Nursing Program is a natural extension of the mitzvah of Gemilut Hassidim, performing acts of loving kindness, which is one of the three pillars of the Adath Jeshurun Mission and very close to the heart of the Jewish People. Visiting the sick and integrating physical, mental and spiritual health is the Jewish tradition of Bikkur Holim.
To realize this vision:
| • |
The Congregational Nurse visits and assesses health concerns, addresses spiritual and social needs and connects individuals with congregational and community resources for support. |
• |
Yad Sima Tova: Adath’s Caring Community provides volunteers to assist with meals, transportation, visitation and an in-home Healing Service. |
• |
The Congregational Nurse Program promotes events and provides information aimed at increasing awareness on a variety of health topics. |
| |
