The Third Seasoning—Latin American!
Borscht with a Kick from Colombia -
Luis Wasserman
Tuesday, March 9 ● 7:00-9:00 PM
Traditional Polish beet borscht with meat takes on a touch of Latin America, perfectly complemented by ripe plantain cake! Luis Wasserman's family emigrated from Poland and Rumania to Bogota, Colombia, where Luis grew up to be a passionate cook and coffee shop owner. When he came to Minneapolis, his mother's recipe book came with him—along with stories and memories of the close Jewish community of Bogota. We'll get a taste of all that!
Picadillo a la Cubana Nikki Stavrou -
Rachelle Lisogurski & Pearl Levin
Thursday, April 15 ● 7:00-9:00 PM
Nikki Stavrou of Victor's 1959 Café in Minneapolis demonstrates traditional Cuban foods, including the Picadillo a la Cubana (ground beef with peppers, olives and more) in creole sauce featured on the Food Network's popular show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Sisters Rachelle Lisogurski and Pearl Levin will talk about growing up in the Cuban-Jewish community. Rachelle is the author of From Havana to Minneapolis: The Journey of a Cuban-Jewish Girl.
