Etz Chayim - Adath's Environment Initiative
Celebrate Tu B'Shevat
and Adath's New Farm Partnership
Shabbat Morning, February 7
Tu B'Shevat, the holiday which celebrates the birthday
of the trees and our commitment to caring for
the environment, will be observed at Adath two days
early, on Shabbat morning, February 7. Join us for a
wonderful pre-celebration of this "green" holiday and
a kick-off to our congregation's new partnership with
Easy Bean Farm in Milan, Minnesota.
Easy Bean farmer Mike Jacobs will give the d'var
Torah, speaking about community supported agriculture,
the connection between Judaism and stewardship
of the earth, his work as a CSA farmer associated
with the farm share movement Tuv Ha'Aretz, and the exciting launch of
a new farm share pick-up site at Adath Jeshurun.
Following the d'var Torah, Rabbi Kravitz will lead a workshop "Tu B'Shevat: An
Ancient Holiday Given New Meaning". Anyone interested in gaining new insights
into this beautiful but often ignored holiday and learning how to hold a Tu
B'Shevat Seder at home is encouraged to attend.
During Kiddush in the Social Hall, Rabbi Brusso and Adath USY members will
lead a Tu B'Shevat Seder, including the seven special foods mentioned in the
Torah. Anyone is welcome! There will be an assortment of Tu B'Shevat Seder
texts with instructions for holding a seder at home for diverse ages and interests.
Come learn about the holiday and CSA farm shares. Then sign up to support
sustainable farming and enjoy your own delicious vegetables from Easy Bean
Farm all summer.
Adath Jeshurun's Etz Chayim Environmental Initiative has organized this special
Shabbat to build on our congregational commitment to caring for the environment.
